Espen Knudsen January 12, 2011 Tips & Tricks

This article is valid for all products using the Schlumberger Ocean licensing system

To activate your Blueback Schlumberger license try the following:

1) To install the license file:

  • Run the Schlumberger Licensing utility (Start->Programs->Schlumberger->Schlumberger Licensing),
  • Click the “Stop” button to halt the license server,
  • Click the “Add license file …” button,
  • Select the provided license file and click “OK”. Note: if the full pathname of the license file is too long you will not be allowed to add it. In such a case place it in a directory closer to the root directory of the disk. i.e. C:\Program Files\Plug-in Licenses\.
  • Click the “Start” button to restart the license server.

2) If you have a lot of plug-ins, you might need to manage their licenses using the “folder” mode of the Licensing utility. Do the following:

  • Move all your license files in a single folder,
    • NOTE: All license files must have the .lic extension when using the folder option. Files with other extensions, such as .txt, will be ignored.
  • Start the Schlumberger Licensing Utility (Start->Programs->Schlumberger->Schlumberger Licensing),
  • Click the “Stop” button to halt the license server,
  • Click the “File->Advanced options” menu,
  • Select “Folder” at the bottom of the dialog and click “OK”,
  • Click the “Add license folder” button,
  • Select the folder with all your licenses and click “OK”,
  • Finally click the “Start” button to restart the license server.
  • To add a new license then just copy the license file into the license folder, open the Licensing Utility, click the Stop button to halt the license server, and then the Start button to restart it.

3) As an alternative approach the license files may be merged with the Petrel license file

Espen Knudsen Apr 30 Announcements

We have the honor to announce that the latest and greatest Toolbox (version 12.0) is finally released.

The new Toolbox 12.0 functionality is briefly summoned up by the following list:

  • The subtle but substantial changes to the Toolbox GUI will improve the user experience vastly by making it much easier to find and access favorite tool.
  • The new release has made a huge boost to the Reservoir Engineering Toolbox, with the Pressure gradient analysis and the Create 3D completion cells tools.
  • In the Project management Toolbox we have added the possibility to link the company wide Blueback Project Tracker database and your local project, using the new Tracker data browser and Tracker duplicated seismic tools. Using this functionality you can check the status of the data inside your project compared to other projects and reference projects without the need to load them.
  • We have also added the possibility to import geo referenced TIFF (geoTIFFs) images, and position them according to the information in the image.
  • With the new Search tool you can quickly find objects by searching their History  and Comments fields.
  • The new Velocity Manager Export  tool exports data from Petrel into files suitable for use with Cambridge Petroleum Software's Velocity Manager tool  (http://www.velocitymanager.com/index.html)
  • With the new Policy administration tool you can fine tune exactly which features of the Toolbox the end users will have access to.
  • Various improvements have been made to the Seismic Reservoir Characterization Toolbox.
See attached release notes for a more detailed overview of what is delivered in the release.
